which side are you on?

by | Monday, June 3, 2013 |

i bet if you did a survey of pet owners exactly half would say they allow their pets on the furniture and the other half would say they don’t.  growing up our family was on the “don’t” side which essentially led to me spending my childhood on the floor.  solely for this reason as an adult i’ve always been firmly on the “do” side.  we probably have more couches and chairs than the average household.  if there’s a nook or a cranny where a soft, upholstered body-holder will fit...

she is what she is

by | Tuesday, May 14, 2013 |

speck was the unfortunate recipient of a very undesirable body type. she’s built like a very, very sturdy tube sitting atop 6” (at best) legs. a few months ago during our daily walk we decided to try to walk her on a leash, thus forcing her to do the whole walk to hopefully generate some weight loss and at least add some definition to the tube. our morning walk is 1 mile and i take reilley on a leash (the walk is for him and the health of his hips) and everyone else runs amok. there is an odd...

an interactive blog post

by | Thursday, May 9, 2013 |

this is the part where i ask you for some help.  because i live with them and see their daily routine my dogs appear slightly mundane (as evidenced by the picture below) and in an attempt to not bore you i end up not posting very often.  i’m aware our life is somewhat outside the box and from the amount of people who say to me "i'd have that many dogs if i could" i would gather i’m missing some content that you as readers may find interesting.  i could use some help in the form...

farewell simon

by | Saturday, April 27, 2013 |

yesterday we said goodbye to simon; our boo, our captain, our elder statesmen.  i have 13 years of memories of simon, 13 years of stories and countless hilarious episodes that i could impart here.  i could tell you how smart he was or what an amazing first alert system he was and how seriously he took his job.  i could fill the page telling you what a character he was.  i could regurgitate all over you and still fail miserably in getting the essence of boo across.  as i...

almost missed my connection

by | Thursday, March 21, 2013 |

one thing i’ve learned from living with a pack of dogs for the last 18 years is that each and every dog is special in their own way and you establish different levels of connection with each one. i’ve been lucky enough to have deeper than usual connections with several of our dogs. that is not to say i’ve loved them more than others or they were more important to me but for whatever reason our souls seemed to speak to each other (i’m looking at you kody, murray, reilley and owney). last year a...
