perspective

i am totally enamored of dogs and their amazing spirit and spunk. the way our dogs go through what is the monotony of each day is quite astounding to me. they are living a life essentially straight out of groundhog day and meet each day with the same amount of enthusiasm as the day before. case in point: we feed our dogs twice a day every day, never once do these dogs not eat twice a day, and they eat the same thing at each of those two meals. and yet every time we feed them it’s like...

sleeping 101

by | Friday, August 14, 2009 |

in an effort to further along our outside-the-box lifestyle all the dogs sleep in the bedroom with us (actually just 15 dogs as astrid has never been interested in sleeping with us…and we try to not be offended by that). we all have a pretty good understanding of the rules and regulations and try to stick to them to the best of our ability (not once have i woken up in the middle of the night to find dave soiling the carpet). one of the rules has been don’t mess with our sleep...

carly's fight club

by | Monday, August 10, 2009 |

carly pretty much whiles away her days playing with anyone who will have her.  i have copious videos of her cajoling other dogs into entertaining her.  today's video is snippets of her and zander, who up until last week was carly's foe of choice (that is until dooley realized how much fun she is and he kindly accepted the position).    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POKup4Jgi-A&hl=en&fs=1&]

the counting game

lest you think everything at the earthdog compound is like moonlight and roses i thought i would fill you in on a grievance i have living with these 16 yahoos, although this one is really out of their control (but they’ve got plenty which would be under their control if they had any). when we first looked at this house, which could also be appropriately referred to as our current house but when i wrote that it sounded like there would be more to come and i assure you there will be no...

open sesame

by | Friday, June 19, 2009 |

once the temperature rises every day is like waiting for the doors to open on black friday [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0uT-kWthH4&hl=en&fs=1&] i know posting has been sporadic at best of late but life has gotten in the way a bit.  we've had contractors in our house for the last 6 weeks and contractors and 16 dogs are not a good mix.  we're starting to get back to normal so regular posting will resume shortly.

a murman retrospective

by | Friday, May 22, 2009 |

shortly after we began fostering for the nashville humane society murray came into our house as a foster with his brother, van. he was a bottle feeder as someone had dropped he and his siblings off on the back stoop of the humane society one night when they were about 3-4 weeks old. i think i knew right when we picked them up that i was in trouble – i fell in love with murray at first sight. when it was getting close to the time to return them to the humane society for adoption i...

how my iphone saved my iass

by | Tuesday, May 19, 2009 |

carly has a new habit which is really putting a crimp in reilley’s red ball chasing as well as resulting in repercussions to my tuckus. carly has always played defense when reilley is chasing balls but she has significantly upped the ante recently in which she now nips at him and goes for his ankles. the other day reilley had had enough and turned around to wallop carly at the exact moment i was trying to curtail her and he ended up making contact with my butt. i didn’t really feel...
